The great boom concerning Bollywood and Indian was sparked off by a single smash hit: „Mundian To Bach Ke“ by Panjabi MC. Manmander Singh Kahi has performed the song with Panjabi MC on all the major stages of the world. After that great success, Manmander Singh Kahi and Gurinder Singh Bewas founded a new band – the „Bhangra Brothers“ – a riveting cocktail of the East and West. HipHop beats meet instruments from the party vibes of western India. The band represents a new form of expression for the cultural and musical movement. In the first years after founding the band, the „Bhangra Brothers“ have been touring as a live band together with Panjabi MC. After the successful debut album in 2007 „Soni Mutear“, the new album „Sun Baliye“ appears in March, 2011. Beside RDB the probably best known Indian rapper ‚Blitz‘ will be also represented with a feature. The Bhangra Brothers, whose musicians are Manmander Singh Kahi and Gurinder Singh Bewas, present „Sun Baliye “, an album that is produced in England in collaboration with RDB and is very much in the style of the British Bhangra club culture. The Bhangra Brothers are already cult in the Bollywood & Bhangra community. No band in the same genre was hired more often in the last two years. Their tracks are in very high demand and are already on all the important playlists, such as the BBC Asian Network.
THE STORY
In late 2002, DJ Sikhsta aka Manmander Singh Kahi began organizing Indian events in the Stuttgart/Heilbronn region and created a series of parties called Black & Indian Beatz where many international artists were invited.
With his fitting pseudonym, he embodied the Indian „Bhangra Brother“ DJ at a time when Bhangra was entering public perception, combining a fascination for spirituality and urban vibes. At one of his events, he met Panjabi MC and they agreed to work together. From then on, the worldwide hit „Mundian To Bach Ke“ by Panjabi MC was presented at major European venues including the World Music Awards -Monaco, the Festival Bar -Venice, the Amadeus Awards -Vienna, the German Dance Awards -Berlin, Top Of The Pops -Cologne… and many more. Since then, the three soul mates have performed in over 100 shows together on every Bhangra stage and are a fixed element of modern black music in the West.
Today, „Bhangra Brothers“ with Panjabi MC enjoy a very high level of awareness. Their songs
were already licensed for films (e.g. for the title song of the film „fight announcement“), for the American TV series „Bollywood Hero“ with Keanu Reeves and Neha Dupia. They played at the NFL cup in the Berlin Olympic stadium and at bigger Bollywood-fairs or Bollywood-events. „Sun Baliye“ and „Soni Mutear“ are perfect Bhangra club albums and are sure to impress Bollywood fans, club-culture insiders and world music lovers alike. Packed with energy, rhythmical drive, melody and charisma, it finally fills the huge vacuum that has been crying out for modern, club-compatible Bhangra songs in the wake of the Bollywood boom.
RDB, a group that has come a long way in becoming one of the leading Punjabi Producers, Musicians, Singers and Entertainers in the world, has been created by three Punjabi Sikh brothers Kuly, Manj and Surj. These British born brothers were introduced to music at a very young age by their father who taught them to sing religious songs and play the harmonium in their Gurdwara (Temple). RDB, which stands for Rhythm Dhol Bass, was designed by these three brothers to create a new genre of music. They brought different musical styles together and fused them with Punjabi folk music ultimately constructing the “RDB sound”.
They are extremely talented and amazing entertainers who have worked along side several celebrity singers and actors, not only in the east coast but also in the west; Akshay Kumar, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy are only a few of them. From multimillion viewers, globally televised performances, to sellout RDB concerts around the world, the RDB sound has without a doubt struck a chord with the masses of music lovers in the east and west. Their music is original and features deep meaningful lyrics along with hook lines and anthem-like melodies that blur across genres. Since their initial release in 2001 they have formed an international fan-base of millions from all ages and backgrounds. These brothers have radically pioneered the style of British Bhangra by remolding it into a raw urban sound, making their work stand out from the crowd. With almost a decade of hits under their belt, millions of unofficial sales worldwide and having toured all corners of the earth (UK, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Canada, USA, South America, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Dubai, India, Pakistan and Kenya), RDB’s artistic ability keeps on escalating to entirely new heights as they become the first artists in the history of music to collaborate Punjabi and Bollywood music with American Hip Hop.
