Want a body like John Abraham?

Here are his Tips!

So what is the first thing that pops in your mind when you see John Abraham? Well, that depends on which gender you belong to, for men it will be more on the lines of “I will kill to get a body like that” and for women, well they will drool over his body and for their thoughts, they are best left unwritten!

John always was known as a model first and actor later though this perception is changing with the success of his movies. However one thing remains the same and that is his fitness and his killer looks. We try to find his fitness mantra and the secret behind his good looks.



If you think that in order to remain in shape you have to starve and keep off food, you are mistaken. John’s diet shows us that he believes in helping himself to a heavy breakfast. His average breakfast consists of six egg whites, a glass of fruit juice, couple of slices of toast with butter and ten almonds. John loves his tea and has at least two cups of tea every day.

Learning- Having a heavy breakfast ensures that you have enough energy to sustain through the day and makes sure you are full for some time and do not binge during the meals.

Small meals

John also confesses of continuously munching on something, but he ensures that it is light and healthy. For the kind of action and work he does, he needs to refuel his system every couple of hours.

Learning-When you are active, it is okay to munch on something in order to give you enough energy and keep your metabolism active.


Unlike other celebrities who only have exotic and expensive meals, John has a traditional, simple fare. For lunch, he takes chapatti made of wheat flour, yellow dal, spinach and some stir fried vegetables.

Learning- Rather than looking for how many calories you get from your meals, look at the nutritive value of what you are eating. You also do not have to eat only expensive diet food in order to stay healthy.

Pre and Post workout

John has some light snacks and protein shakes in the evening and after his workout, he indulges in a light meal like corn, some soups and a vegetarian supper.

Learning- You need to adequately fuel your body if you expect it to work for you. A nutritious snack at the end of the workout is a must.

Vegetarian at heart

Born to a Keralite father and a Parsi mother, John has been a non vegetarian before but now is an avowed vegetarian. He is one of the long time supporters of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) and has shot campaigns against cruelty to animals and in support of vegetarianism. To supplement his diet that lacks protein in comparison with non vegetarian diet, he depends on protein shakes.

His take on Fitness

John has said in an interview that he thinks fitness is like a tripod stand, it has three legs- good food, good sleep and good routine. John also believes in working hard for staying in shape, he is not the taking short cuts. He says he has never indulged in growth hormones or steroids and doesn’t want others to do it either.

John is of the belief that fad diets or crash diets don’t work, what works is burning calories not controlling them, he says.

His message to his fans is to eat right and eat well. He also adds that starving will only make you bloat up so eating right is essential.

John’s workout

Anybody who has seen John’s body will know that it is a body developed through a lot of work. John himself says that he considers going to the Gym as a necessity and a part of the routine. He follows a strict gym regimen and follows his diet ‘to the t’. By working hard on his body, he today understands his body pretty well and knows how it will respond.

For those who want a body like him, he advises that there are no short cuts to success and there is no alternative to working out. “The use of unnatural substances is unacceptable to get a body. It leads to hair loss, high blood pressure, mood swings, loss of libido and enlarged glands. Stay away from the short cuts”, he warns his fans.

On being a male fitness idol, he says, “A lot of us have a benchmark for how well-toned we must be. I had a very high benchmark. I’m a leader, not a follower. Not that I am always seeing sunshine up my backside. But I’m very individualistic.”

Dostana Look

When asked about what went to get that perfect body for his film Dostana in the film, John informs that Karan Johar had told him to get a beach body not a body builder’s body. So, John concentrated on building up a well toned body that looked appealing because it was achievable. John says that he concentrated to get a well proportioned body with not only strong arms but also lower half. It took a lot of cross training, squats, presses, with emphasis on calves and hamstring. He says that Indian men focus too much on the arms forgetting the lower half. According to him “6 pack abs is not everything; men should have a proportionate upper and lower body.”

Constantly changing looks

John may be at his beefiest best in Dostana but for Aashayien he had to lose over 12 kilos. So how does John deal with this change in looks for every movie? John says “If you are not careful, it can be disastrous. These days actors are ready to experiment and they indeed are changing body types in almost every single movie. Look at me in Aashayein; I lost over 12 kilos, became thin and then I had to gain weight just after that for my other projects.”

In order to make sure he did not face any health issue, John says he ate right and balanced his calorie intake had a lot of health food. He says that it is important not to cut down on your energy, protein and other essential body intake to avoid falling sick.

So all you guys out there who want a body like John to get the response from your female friends as John does, eat right, workout and remember no short cuts!
