The Singh Project is a collection of 35 photographs that celebrate the identity, beards, and turbans of British Sikh men.
British photographers Naroop Singh Jhooti and Amit Amin were inspired by the sudden popularity of beards as a fashion statement. They found the facial hair craze intriguing because in Sikh culture the beard is a constant, a key tradition, and an integral identifying feature of a Sikh male.
The duo photographed Sikh men of different ages and diverse backgrounds to showcase the beard and turban as a common symbol of Sikh pride and celebration. Now, they’re raising money on Kickstarter to fund an exhibition showcasing the Singh Project.
